Information About Paint Protective Film (PPF)
If you are looking for a reliable way to protect the paintwork on your car, then paint protective film, often shortened to PPF, may be the solution for you. We here at Vinyl Solutions are happy to explain to you what paint protective film is and if it is the right choice for you and your car.
Paint protection film is made of a powerful type of polymer known as urethane, which is lightweight and transparent. It’s incredibly flexible and very resistant, perfect for protecting your car’s paint from any scratches it might receive otherwise. The urethane is sandwiched between two other layers. The upper layer is made up of polymers that have a low surface energy, keeping things like bugs or bird droppings from bonding with the film. These polymers also allow the film to return to its natural shape after being stretched or disfigured. The bottom layer is an acrylic adhesive, designed to be clear and flexible so that it can stretch around your car and stay there without affecting the paint. Even with these three layers, most paint protection film is less than a hundredth of an inch wide.
Paint protection film (PPF) is a great way to protect your car and keep its value up for longer, but there’s still some risk and it doesn’t mean you can ignore upkeep of your car. Rocks may still puncture the film, and while bugs and bird droppings are prevented from bonding with the film right away, they may still damage the film if they stay on there for long periods of time. Three of the most common complaints you will hear about paint protection film are yellowing, blistering and peeling. However, all of these complaints are often rooted in the use of aftermarket film or improper installation. Those are two things you won’t have to worry about if you trust installation to Vinyl Solutions, and you can see some of the examples of film we have applied here. So if you decide that paint protection film is right for you, don’t hesitate to contact us for installation!
